I view it a privilege when a person chooses to share their experiences, concerns and life stories with me and I hold these stories with care and respect. Counsellors are bound to maintain confidentiality except when there are concerns for a person’s safety or risk – this would be dealt with very carefully and with respect and, discussed together with you to ensure the best support is available.
As a professional counsellor I have the support in the work we do through supervision. Any information received in counselling would be discussed anonymously with a supervisor.
Counsellors are required to keep counselling records of work done together. These notes are kept in a locked and secure area to protect your privacy. What is written during our sessions is available for you to take home with you.
The number of counselling sessions is in general, dependent on what issues are brought to counselling and what the person seeking counselling is looking for. For some people 2-3 sessions are required and others 4-6 sessions. Longer term counselling may also be needed and if it looks like counselling might go beyond six sessions we will discuss options regarding affordability and or the possibility of other agency funded counselling.
When we meet we can go over this information again.
