Making a Complaint

Difficulties that arise

If difficulties arise between the client and counsellor during the counselling relationship or the client wishes to make a complaint about some aspect of the counselling relationship please use the following guidelines.

  • The client and counsellor discuss issues or difficulties and work together to resolve them in a way where both people are satisfied.
  • The client can discuss issues or difficulties with the counsellor's supervisor.
  • If the client and counsellor agree, issues or difficulties can be referred to a mediator.
  • In the case of a serious allegation please contact the counsellor's supervisor or contact the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
