Hi I'm Vicky Finlayson.
The photo shown here was taken after a 7 hour hike in the Kaimais - 3 hours in we realised we had become a bit lost. But we kept our cool, and found our way out - We were very happy and relieved hikers !
I was born in Wellington and life's travels led me to living in Auckland. Then I moved from Auckland with my children in 2001 and now call the Waikato home. Some of the things I like to do are chilling out at the beach, walking my dog and aside from getting lost, I do still enjoy hiking.
As a counsellor, I bring my own life experience alongside my training. I hold a Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) and experience in working with teenagers, youth and adults of all ages. I am a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) and I am guided by the NZAC Code of Ethics and the Aotearoa New Zealand Privacy Act 1993. Following our Code of Ethics, I undertake ongoing professional development in areas specific to counselling.
Also, as mentioned elsewhere in this site, I wish to honour people's values, beliefs, culture, and the communities within which they live. I am supported in this by te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Treaty of Waitangi, as it reminds me, when honouring the uniqueness and diversity that is Aotearoa New Zealand, that counselling conversations are respectful to peoples way of life.
